During my recent pantry cleanout, I used all my kids’ uneaten snacks to make Trash Mix. Deciding it would take too much time to actually research a recipe, I just winged it by pulling things out of the fridge to make a savory sauce. But, I wound up making too much! I am SURE this NEVER happens to you, right? LOL!
I hated to toss it out, so I dug back into the pantry and pulled out all my stale bread.
Time to make homemade croutons.
Homemade Crouton Recipe
Cube all the stale bread in your pantry. I had about 4 cups of cubes.
Place in a large mixing bowl and coat with remaining half of my trash mix Savory Sauce mixture.
Spread on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake for 5 hours at 275 degrees, stirring lightly every 30 minutes until dry and crispy.
Set aside to cool.
Store in an airtight container or freeze for future use.
